Axes Gives Back: Supporting the American Foundation for
Suicide Prevention
Axes is a small, locally owned and operated physical therapy company serving our communities in the Greater St. Louis area. We’re fortunate to be able to offer our services at 20 locations, with the mission to help as many people as possible. Our profession is all about helping others and giving back. Through the service of physical and occupational therapy, we give our patients’ their livelihoods, lifestyles, and abilities back.
Since giving back is the fundamental reason that our organization exists, it was important to the ownership and staff of Axes Physical Therapy to make sure that we are doing all that we can to give back to the communities we love. Each month, Axes partners with a local, staff-nominated charitable organization to donate food, goods, clothes, and funds through our “Wear Jeans, Change Lives” initiative. Employees of Axes contribute to a St. Louis area charitable cause by automatic payroll deduction, and get to wear jeans to work on Fridays.
Axes Partners with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
For the month of October 2024, Axes is honored to partner with the Missouri Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This organization is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. Through education, research, and advocacy, AFSP is working to eliminate the loss of life from suicide and create a world that’s smart about mental health.
The Mission of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
AFSP’s mission is built on the pillars of:
- Funding scientific research to improve our understanding of suicide and its prevention.
- Educating the public about mental health and the warning signs of suicide to foster early intervention.
- Advocating for public policies that support mental health and suicide prevention efforts.
- Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide in their healing journeys.
Making a Local Impact
The Missouri Chapter of AFSP is actively involved in organizing events and outreach programs that bring people together in support of suicide prevention. One of their most impactful programs is the “Out of the Darkness Walks,” which brings together survivors, advocates, and community members to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention efforts.
AFSP also engages with local schools, businesses, and healthcare providers to deliver prevention programs like “Talk Saves Lives” and “More Than Sad,” both of which educate individuals on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and provide support to those in need.
Reaching Those in Need
AFSP is making a profound difference by offering a platform for open conversation about suicide, mental health, and healing. Through their nationwide network of 73 chapters, including Missouri’s, they bring communities together to support individuals and families affected by suicide, helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health.
