Axes Gives Back: Shriner’s Hospitals for Children

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do. They inspire us to continue our mission of improving the lives of children and families.

-Shriner’s Hospitals for Children

Axes is a small, locally owned and operated physical therapy company serving our communities in the Greater St. Louis area. We’re fortunate to be able to offer our services at 12 locations, with the mission to help as many people as possible. Our profession is all about helping others and giving back. Through the service of physical and occupational therapy, we give our patients’ their livelihoods, lifestyles, and abilities back.

Since giving back is the fundamental reason that our organization exists, it was important to the ownership and staff of Axes Physical Therapy to make sure that we are doing all that we can to give back to the communities we love. Each month, Axes partners with a local, staff-nominated charitable organization to donate food, goods, clothes, and funds through our “Wear Jeans, Change Lives” initiative. Employees of Axes contribute to a St. Louis area charitable cause by automatic payroll deduction, and get to wear jeans to work on Fridays.

Axes Partners with Shriners Hospitals for Children

For the month of September 2024, Axes is proud to partner with Shriners Hospitals for Children, an incredible organization committed to providing high-quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries, and other special healthcare needs. Their mission is carried out in a compassionate, family-centered, and collaborative care environment, ensuring that every child receives the best possible care regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

The Mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children

Shriners Hospitals for Children is dedicated to:

  • Providing the highest quality care to children with various healthcare needs, from orthopedic issues to burn injuries.
  • Educating physicians and healthcare professionals to ensure a bright future for pediatric healthcare.
  • Conducting groundbreaking research to enhance the quality of care and life for children and their families.

Supporting Children Through Hosting and Care

Greg Nicholas, a physical therapist and clinic director at our Arnold location, along with his wife, Amy, and their daughters, have been deeply involved with Children’s Medical Mission West since 2017. Over the past four years, they have opened their home to five children from impoverished countries, such as Haiti, St. Lucia, and West Africa, who traveled to the United States for life-changing medical care at Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis.

The Nicholas family has hosted children with conditions like arthrogryposis, club feet, Blount’s disease, and undiagnosed leg deformities. Shriners has provided these children with free surgical treatment, physical and occupational therapy, orthotics, splints, nursing, and other essential healthcare services—all delivered with exceptional care and love. This mission is conducted without regard to race, color, creed, sex, disability, national origin, or the family’s financial status.

Changing Lives, One Child at a Time

Parents from around the world send their children to Shriners Hospitals for Children with the hope of alleviating the disabilities that impact their daily lives. The dedicated team at Shriners does more than just address physical impairments; they strive to rewrite the life stories of these children. Thanks to the hospital’s comprehensive care, these children return home not only with improved physical abilities but also with a renewed sense of confidence and a world of new opportunities.

Your donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis make these life-changing stories possible. Every contribution helps to provide exceptional medical care, fostering new beginnings for children and families facing unimaginable challenges.
