Celebrating Occupational Therapists in St. Louis: Improving Lives through Rehabilitation

Occupational Therapy Month 2024 celebrated by Axes Physical Therapy in St. Louis, MO

As Axes Physical Therapy in St. Louis celebrates Occupational Therapy Month 2024, it’s important to acknowledge the incredible work done by occupational therapists in our community and across the globe. Occupational therapists (OTs) are healthcare professionals who assist individuals in achieving optimal levels of functioning, independence, and satisfaction in their daily lives.

OTs help people with a variety of conditions, including neurological, orthopedic, and developmental disabilities, to name a few. They work to help patients regain independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, grooming, and feeding, as well as instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), such as managing finances, preparing meals, and driving.

OTs work with patients to assess their needs, create treatment plans, and provide interventions that promote their physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. By doing so, they empower patients to regain their independence, improve their quality of life, and achieve their goals.

For example, OTs may help stroke survivors regain the ability to use their hands, arms, and legs, enabling them to perform ADLs and return to work. OTs may also work with individuals with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, to help them develop the skills they need to succeed in school, work, and social settings.

One of the key ways OTs help patients is by teaching them adaptive techniques and strategies for performing daily tasks. By adapting their environment or using assistive devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers, patients can often perform tasks that they once thought impossible. This can greatly improve their self-esteem, independence, and overall well-being.

At Axes Physical Therapy in St. Louis, we are proud to have a team of skilled and compassionate OTs who are dedicated to helping our patients achieve their goals.
